Laparoscopic Supracervical Hysterectomy
LSH is a recent surgical option that uses laparoscopy alone to remove the uterus, but leaves the cervix intact. During the procedure, a laparoscope and small surgical instruments are inserted through tiny incisions in the navel and abdomen. Using these instruments, the surgeon is able to carefully separate the uterus from its pelvic connections and from the cervix. The uterus is then removed through one of the incisions. LSH is less invasive than traditional “open” hysterectomy and has many advantages. It was developed to reduce pain and trauma to the body, minimize scarring, and shorten recovery time.
Novasure Ablation
NovaSure is an endometrial ablation procedure that provides an effective and minimally invasive outpatient alternative to hysterectomy, while avoiding the potential side effects and long term risk of hormone therapy. NovaSure delivers precisely measured electrical energy via a slender, handheld wand to remove the endometrial lining. The quick, simple procedure requires no incisions. It can be performed in our office or an outpatient setting, and generally takes less than 5 minutes, significantly less time than any other endometrial ablation procedure.
We are dedicated to treating each of our patients with a personalized approach, considering your unique medical situation, lifestyle and individual wishes in order to help guide you through your healthcare issues.

What is Essure?
Essure is a permanent birth control procedure that works with your body to create a natural barrier against pregnancy. This gentle procedure can be performed in a doctor's office in less than an hour.
The Essure procedure does not require any cutting into the body. Instead, an Essure trained doctor inserts small flexible micro-inserts™ through the body’s natural pathways (vagina, cervix, and uterus) and into your fallopian tubes.
The procedure can be performed in the comfort of a doctor’s office without general anesthesia, and most women resume their normal activities within one day.
During the 3 months following the procedure, your body and the micro-inserts work together to form a natural barrier that prevents sperm from reaching the egg. During this period, you must continue using another form of birth control (other than an IUD or IUS).
Three months after the Essure procedure, a doctor will perform an Essure Confirmation Test, to confirm that the tubes are fully blocked and that the women can rely on Essure for permanent birth control.
What is LSH (Laprascopic Supracervical Hysterectomy)?
Laparoscopic supracervical hysterectomy (LSH) uses a thin, lighted telescope-like instrument called a laparoscope, which acts like a video camera, along with small surgical instruments that are all inserted through three to four tiny incisions (less than 1/4 inch each) in the navel and abdomen. Using the instruments, the surgeon carefully separates the uterus from the cervix and removes it through one of the openings. The cervix, the bottom part of the uterus, is left intact. Because this type of surgery does not require the surgeon to make a large abdominal incision, you will not have the same kind of visible scar typical with most traditional, "open" surgeries.
LSH causes less stress to the body than the traditional "open" hysterectomy. It was developed to reduce pain, minimize scarring, and shorten recovery time. The procedure can be done on an outpatient basis, which means a woman can be home resting comfortably within 24 hours and back to her normal activities in less than a week. As with all surgery, hysterectomy involves risk, including potential blood loss, infection and damage to other internal organs.
LSH preserves the cervix, which some research suggests may help to reduce the risk of pelvic floor prolapse, urinary incontinence and other complications associated with total hysterectomies. Because the cervix is left in place, however, you must be willing to continue annual pap smears to screen for cervical cancer.
The Enabling Technology: da Vinci® Surgical System
The da Vinci Surgical System is powered by state-of-the-art robotic technology. The System allows your surgeon’s hand movements to be scaled, filtered and translated into precise movements of micro-instruments within the operative site. The da Vinci System enhances surgical capabilities by enabling the performance of complex surgeries through tiny surgical openings. The System cannot be programmed, nor can it make decisions on its own. The da Vinci System requires that every surgical maneuver be performed with direct input from your surgeon. The da Vinci Surgical System has been successfully used in tens of thousands of minimally invasive procedures worldwide.
da Vinci® Hysterectomy: A Less Invasive Surgical Procedure
If your doctor recommends hysterectomy, you may be a candidate for a new, less invasive surgical procedure called da Vinci Hysterectomy. This procedure uses a state-of-the-art surgical system designed to help your surgeon perform a more precise, minimally invasive procedure. For most women, da Vinci Hysterectomy offers numerous potential benefits over traditional surgical approaches, including:
- Shorter hospital stay
- Less pain
- Faster recovery
- Quicker return to normal activities
- Less risk of wound infection
- Less blood loss
- Less scarring
As with any surgery, these benefits cannot be guaranteed, as surgery is patient- and procedure-specific.
